There’s something magical about photographing a wedding where both partners share deep roots in the islands. Aaron and Terada’s celebration at Waimea Plantation Cottages was a perfect embodiment of Hawaiian hospitality and love, weaving together tradition, family, and modern elegance.
Waimea Plantation Cottages holds a special place in my heart as a photographer. The venue transports you back in time, with its collection of restored plantation homes dotting the expansive oceanfront grounds. The relaxed, unhurried atmosphere allows wedding days to unfold naturally, giving guests the freedom to stroll the grounds, gather under century-old trees, or find peaceful moments along the black sand beach.
The couple’s thoughtful attention to detail was evident in every aspect of their celebration. In addition to traditional assigned seating, they created intimate conversation areas with vintage rattan furniture and soft cushions scattered across the lawn, allowing their guests to naturally mingle and talk story throughout the evening.
The golden hour provided an absolutely breathtaking backdrop for the couple’s portraits. As the sun began its descent to the horizon, it painted the sky in brilliant hues and cast a warm glow over the newlyweds. Their love for each other shone in every frame.
As night fell, the reception came alive under strings of twinkling lights. The couple’s traditional dances transitioned seamlessly into an evening of celebration, with everyone joining together on the dance floor.
What struck me most about Aaron and Terada’s wedding wasn’t just its visual beauty, but the tangible sense of aloha that permeated every moment. Their celebration was a testament to how love, when rooted in tradition and shared values, creates its own kind of magic.
A very big mahalo to everyone involved in creating such a beautiful event.
