An intimate, beautifully styled elevated elopement
on Kauai’s North Shore
Maribeth and Austin traveled from the mainland with a clear vision: an intimate elopement on Kauai that felt luxurious but genuine, elevated but relaxed. They chose 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay to make their commitment to each other. There is something so freeing and fun about having an intimate wedding ceremony at a luxury resort, you have thew opportunity to create such a wonderful experience for yourselves.
Getting Ready at 1 Hotel
The day began in Maribeth’s suite overlooking Hanalei Bay. Maribeth’s details were thoughtfully chosen—a delicate lace gown, simple white flats, and a stunning bouquet. The view from their room was incredible, with Makana mountain directly out the window creating the perfect backdrop for one more photo before we head out to the ceremony at Kamanai Cove. I love these quiet getting-ready moments. The anticipation, the beauty of the light, the calm before everything changes.

The Ceremony: Oceanfront Perfection
Diana Gardner from Alohana Kauai Weddings coordinated the details, and North Shore Buds & Blooms created a simple floral center piece for the couple to stand in during the ceremony. The ceremony took place on Kamani Cove, with Hanalei Bay glittering behind them. The way the afternoon light filters through the trees there, and how you can hear the sound of the waves gently crashing on the shore, it is an atmosphere that feels intimate and magical.
Austin waited under the trees as Maribeth walked across the lawn to meet him. Pancho Graham gently played the guitar as the bride entered to join her man. The is always a special moment, when man and woman stand face to face ready to speak these powerful words of love and commitment to each other. Even with just the two of them the nervous energy and excitement was palatable.
Their vows were heartfelt, and when they kissed as a married couple, the joy on their faces was radiant. They toasted with champagne under the glow of the Kamani Trees.

Portraits at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay
After the ceremony, we explored the property for portraits. 1 Hotel offers an incredible variety of backgrounds, manicured grounds with mountain and waterfall views, the beach with black volcanic rocks, jaw dropping vistas from around the hotel. Maribeth and Austin were completely natural together. I offered them some gentle direction, but they just enjoyed being married in this beautiful place, it was all so beautiful and easy.
As the sun began to set, they moved to the Hanalei Suite for an intimate dinner reception. The table was elegantly styled with beautiful greenery draped over the table and flowers cascading down. This is what elopements are all about: creating exactly the experience you want, surrounded by beauty with the person you love.
